Summit Success

On April 7, CWA and PolicyLink, in partnership with the California WIC Program, welcomed 300 guests and enthusiastic speakers to the Center for a day-long Summit. Attendees were able to take an in-depth look at the recent Interim Final Rule released by the U.S. Department of Agriculture, which will update and improve the foods provided to millions of families served by the WIC program.

Thanks for Coming!

State and local policymakers, food processors and retailers, public health and community development experts, grass-roots and multi-cultural health advocates, and nutrition and breastfeeding educators were able to network with WIC professionals and administrators and new linkages were formed. During the plenary and breakout sessions, attendees were able to get more detailed information about the new Rule, as well as WIC program operations and the process for implementing the Food Package changes in California.

Next Steps

Interested persons can download some of the Summit Materials provided, and browse through the Plenary and Breakout presentations. CWA is busy pulling together a Summit Summary document containing some of the key recommendations that surfaced during the discussions, as well as a Questions and Answers page – these will be posted in a few weeks. We are also keeping in touch via e-mail with interested attendees. If you’d like to get in the loop, please contact Kinkini Banerjee at kbanerjee@calwic.org.
